As Maha Kumbh 2025 began on Monday, people from across the globe have flocked to Uttar Pradesh to partake in the grand spiritual gathering.
Speaking to ANI, Fermin Ezcurdia from Spain shared his excitement about being in India. “I am very excited about India. It is a wonderful country. 12 years ago, I was at the previous Kumbh Mela for four days. It was insufficient for me; very little. Now I have come for 30 days,” he said, expressing his eagerness to experience more of the event.
Another Spanish visitor, Javier de Uscaleria, who has visited India six times since his first trip in 1984, shared his thoughts. “It was 12 years ago and now. It seems very surprising and draws a lot of attention,” he told ANI, referring to his experiences at the Kumbh Mela.
Anna, a first-time visitor from Italy, described her awe of the event, saying, “It’s very powerful. There are a lot of things, a lot of emotions, a lot of colours.” Another Italian traveler marveled at the scale of the spirituality on display, stating, “This spirituality, this sense that exists here is not elsewhere in the world.”
The Maha Kumbh 2025 kicked off with a monumental turnout, and by 9:30 AM on the first day, 6 million devotees had already bathed in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj, as per the Uttar Pradesh government.
This year’s 45-day religious event is expected to host over 40 crore devotees, making it the largest-ever human gathering in history. The first major Shahi Snan, or Amrit Snan, will take place on Tuesday during Makar Sankranti, marking the beginning of the peak bathing days.
